Sho’on Shibata is a Honolulu-based taiko and shinobue artist, composer, and educator. Born in Fukuoka, his work connects Japanese festival and traditional musical practice with contemporary performance. He is a performing member and instructor with Taiko Center of the Pacific and holds an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

柴田渚音は、ホノルルを拠点に活動する太鼓・篠笛奏者、作曲家、教育者。福岡に生まれ、日本の祭りや伝統音楽の実践を現代の舞台表現へつなげています。Taiko Center of the Pacificの演奏メンバーおよび講師。ハワイ大学マノア校で民族音楽学修士号を取得。

Sho’on Shibata is a performing artist, composer, and educator of Japanese taiko and shinobue. Born in Fukuoka and based in Honolulu, his work connects the musical language of Japanese festival and traditional performance with influences from Western classical music, jazz, global percussion, and contemporary sound.

He moved to Honolulu in 2015 as a fellowship recipient at Kenny Endo’s Taiko Center of the Pacific and earned an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 2019. Today, he performs and teaches with Taiko Center of the Pacific, works as Dance Accompanist in the university’s Department of Theatre & Dance, and develops solo, educational, and collaborative projects across Hawai‘i, Japan, and the wider taiko community.

柴田渚音は、太鼓・篠笛奏者、作曲家、教育者。福岡に生まれ、現在はホノルルを拠点に、日本の祭りや伝統芸能の音楽語法と、クラシック、ジャズ、世界の打楽器、現代のサウンドを結びつける活動を行っています。

2015年、遠藤ケニー氏主宰のTaiko Center of the Pacificフェローとしてホノルルへ移住。2019年、ハワイ大学マノア校で民族音楽学修士号を取得しました。現在はTaiko Center of the Pacificの演奏メンバーおよび講師として活動し、同大学の演劇・舞踊学科でダンス伴奏を担当。ハワイ、日本、各地の太鼓コミュニティでソロ、教育、共同制作に取り組んでいます。
